A chance to visit the church tower of St James Finchampstead is on offer next weekend

A church in Finchampstead is preparing a weekend of special events to celebrate the saint it’s named after.

St James is to hold a patronal festival on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23.

Activities start on Saturday, July 22 with a special choral concert with a summer buffet.

Tickets cost £12 each and are available from the church office. The music starts at 7.30pm.

Then on Sunday, July 23, the church will welcome visitors to a fun open afternoon.

There will be a mini-fete with games to play, stalls to browse and plenty of refreshments: cream teas, ice creams and more.

It will also be organising tours of its church tower offering one of the best views of Berkshire from the top.

The climb involves a spiral staircase, ladder and small hatch onto the roof. Children need to be over eight to climb, and no pets are allowed up the tower.

For more details, log on to the church’s website, or call the church office on 0118 973 0133.
