Robin Hobb, one of the world’s leading fantasy writers started her UK tour in Waterstones bookshop, Reading on Saturday August 9. Robin is Voyager’s fastest-selling author in backlist selling over 1 million copies of her paperbacks. She was in town to sign copies of her latest book ‘Fool’s Assassin – Fitz and the Fool.’

“I’ve only been in the UK about 24 hours but it’s always a pleasure to come here.” she said.

Robin Hobb grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska and has spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Her first books were published under the name ‘Megan Lindholm’ but in 1992 she changed her pen name to ‘Robin Hobb’. As Robin she has written four trilogies: the Farseer, Liveship Traders, Tawny Man and Soldier Son as well as the Rain Wild Chronicles.

In the eagerly anticipated new book Robin has returned to the world of the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies. “Our past catches up with all of us.” Robin said. “I think we are all the sum of all we did and all we’re meant to do. Definitely his [Fitz’s] past is catching up with him.”

In Fool’s Assassin the violent past that Fitz led invades the peace of his new life and we discover that nothing and no-one is safe.

Alice Chamberlain, 22, who came from Meadway, Kent was first in the queue to see her favourite novelist. “Robin Hobb is my favourite author.” Alice said. “I wouldn’t read when I was little and my Nan gave me the Farseer Trilogy. That got me reading.”

Another fan who came a long way to meet her hero was Erica Murphy. Erica is an American, currently working with the military in Germany. “I only started really reading two years ago,” she said, “and now I don’t want any other author, I only want to read Robin Hobb.”

Robin agreed that she had amazing fans, “I do,” she said. “I’m very fortunate.”

Fool’s Assassin, the first book in the new Fitz and the Fool Trilogy is published by HarperVoyager and available from Waterstones and other good bookshops.

It is also available as an Ebook.
